Independent Retail With a Purpose

Tucked into the creative heart of Ouseburn, Flaura Rose is a lifestyle boutique that stands out for its clear identity and strong community ethos. It’s more than a shop, it’s a curated space built around female-led design, maker culture and social experience.

What You’ll Find

The shop sells:

  • Clothing, including boho-influenced pieces and reworked designs

  • Jewellery and accessories

  • Home décor

  • In-house designs (many pieces stem from the founder’s own label)

  • Items from a collective of small brands, all female-owned

Founder Laura Walvin began Flaura Rose as a fashion label sold at markets and festivals. The shop expands that vision in its permanent Ouseburn location. Laura studied fashion buying and has spent years building the brand.

The overall edit leans playful and expressive, often featuring reworked denim, boho-print tops, quirky accessories, and eye-catching motifs. Pieces you won’t find on the main high street.

By showcasing work from different creators, it helps smaller businesses reach new customers while giving shoppers access to things they would otherwise struggle to find. That relationship between the shop owner, the maker, and the customer feels honest and grounded.

Ouseburn itself is known for creativity, and Flaura Rose fits naturally into that setting. It reflects the area’s independent spirit and offers another reason to explore beyond the city centre. Pair a visit here with a walk along the river or a stop in one of the nearby cafes, and you have an afternoon well spent.

The Maker Collective and Events

A defining feature is the collective business model. Rather than stocking only external brands or mass-produced goods, Flaura Rose brings around 14 female-owned small businesses together under one roof.

That collective includes, or has included:

  • Custom fabric banners and artwork

  • Floral design and dried arrangements

  • Plant sellers and home bits

  • Prints and graphic art

  • Personalised pet art and vintage pieces

  • Home-fragrance makers

The shop also runs creative events. From Pal-and-Paint and banner workshops to disco-ball painting and seasonal craft sessions – creating a service that blends retail with participatory, social experiences.

Atmosphere and Community Role

The aesthetic is bold and lively; think neon touches, strong colour, music and a vibe that reflects its “girl gang” identity. This is not minimalist boutique retail. It’s designed to be an environment you spend time in.

A coffee corner with local suppliers and occasional food elements adds to this sense of a hang-out space as much as a shopping destination.

Ouseburn’s Cultural Quarter

Ouseburn remains one of Newcastle’s most distinct neighbourhoods, known for arts spaces, studios, independent bars and creative businesses. Flaura Rose fits that landscape by offering unique products and experiences that encourage exploration beyond the main city centre retail streets.
